These dates are published on the Issaquah School district website and are communicated by each school. Training/Staff Development | OSPI

OSPI does not have control over the content of these training events. This training is designed to support delivery of KNOW for grades , though it is also helpful for those providing high school level HIV prevention instruction. This training is a highly interactive and research-based learning process that supports educators with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully use the FLASH program in the classroom.

Training sessions may focus on delivery of elementary, secondary or special education versions of FLASH. Educators who successfully complete the FLASH educator learning process walk away with knowledge and skills on:. The first day of the Foundations training covers the essential skills for facilitating sex education, including: climate building in the classroom; understanding state and local sex education policies; pedagogical approaches for experiential learning; values clarification; managing personal disclosure; and handling difficult questions and harassing comments.

Day 2 of the training, which is optional, will offer two half-day modules covering two of the following topics: cultural competency, LGBTQ inclusion, trauma-informed approaches, facilitation skills for common sex education strategies. Foundations focuses on the core skills needed to effectively facilitate sex education and does not include information on content such as birth control methods, STDs, healthy relationships, etc. Educators are strongly encouraged to brush up on their content knowledge prior to participating in Foundations.

This full-day training is intended for teachers and other educators who have experience delivering sexual health instruction and who have attended previous trainings e.
