To coincide with the band's new studio album due for release in Summer , Madfish is giving the 6 albums from the Vitamin Enhanced CD box set their first vinyl release beginning with Erpsongs. Erpsongs was the band's debut album in and was released on cassette only originally. It contained studio recordings made in and , didn't come with a print tracklisting, and whilst live favourites such as the high energy Velmwend and more relaxed Dots Thots were easily identifiable, the contents remained a mystery for many years until the Vitamin Enhanced CDs clarified the running order.

They will also celebrate the joy of another year, by returning to the Madsummer Meltdown, in Shuylkill, PA. Upon arriving home from an extensive 40 date tour through North America and Europe, which included debut performances in Russia, the group was immediately evacuated from their home and studio. It was located directly in the path of the most destructive forest fire in Colorado history.

The band had only moments to grab their most important possessions, before they were escorted out by Police and National Guard. That evening, as the band took the stage, the fire destroyed their home and studio as they played, taking with it all of the bands past archives and masters. It's timeless. It's not dictated by fashion or fads.

It's above all of that. This new album does not disappoint. Their eclectic soundscapes soar and fly around the room like a magic spell, weaving in and out of your head. A fusion of oriental sounds and fantastic rhythms, combined with pulsing bass and Ed's marvellous guitar swirling over the keyboard textures and samples.

Clifford Pickover - Spiraling Through Hyperspace. After a session of warming their bones and discussing imaginary breakfast cereals, the group went to perform an impromptu late jam session.

Over the course of what became an epic six hour performance, an audience member inquired as to the name of the band. From that very first jam session, a musical compatibility was evoked that has since been a trademark of the Ozric Tentacles. It's a signature blend of hippy aesthetics and raver electronics with spiraling guitars, textured waves of keyboards, midi, samplers, and super-groovy bass and drum rhythms.

The band swiftly claimed their place as a staple of the UK's burgeoning festival scene, and are now credited as one of the influential musical linchpins of the scene's re-emergence.

Recorded at home on a barely more than a domestic hi-fi and lined with hand drawn covers, it ignited the underground psychedelic scene. The album showcased a variety of styles, which has been a characteristic feature of the band throughout their career. Some tracks seemed a mixture of alien, spacey sounds in a floating ambiance, while other tracks showed the Ozrics' harder rock tendencies with a solid rhythm section underpinning soaring guitar and synthesizer passages.

Live Ethereal Cereal, record from those early festival jams, showed the band to be hot psychedelic property indeed. Scales, styles, and samples gathered by Joie on visits to India, and Ed on trips to Thailand became deeply entwined with the band's sound. At Stonehenge festival the year following the bands inception, Ozrics had picked up a second synth player, Tom Brooks, who helped to fill in the audio spectrum with bubbling ethereal effects.

Around the same time, drummer Tig evaporates, and Ozrics recruit Merv Pepler, a 21 year old phychobilly drummer from Somerset. The live performances from this time have become something of folklore amongst the hardcore fan-base: jam sessions lasting for hours and featuring an array of musicians.

Tape trade amongst these fans has reached the feverish dedication shown by the Dead-heads in the USA, with similar rules of free trade and no profit. Throughout the early 's, constant touring of the UK helped the Ozric Tentacles to build a tremendous national fan base on a grass roots level. The single was released just as dance music was exploding in the UK, and the ravers embraced its hypnotic pulse. By The Ozrics were the soundtrack to the summer. Travelers were suddenly trendy and free festivals were attracting tens of thousands of people.

With the band's release "Jurassic Shift," which debuted at 11 on the British indie chart and climbed into the Top 10 in the National Album Charts, the Ozrics eventually won over the adulation of mainstream press, and found themselves heralded in publications such as NME and Melody Maker.

It was, and still is, an astonishing accomplishment for a band with no celebrity status, and no major record label backing. Over the years Ozrics have toured extensively both at home and abroad, performing regularly throughout Europe, Asia, North America, and South America. As the Ozrics continue to create genre-free music with no boundaries in sight, it means that their aim and goals are enthusiastically raised as they strive to take each track to a new level, and each album must grow substantially for the band to be satisfied.

What are the chances of tracking down and digitising the cassettes they would get blank from fans, fill with music and send back to them.

Wonder how many they did. Been listening to Ozrics for over 25 years now they are that good. Every time i have seen them live which was back in the 90's the venue was full of people sitting down, skinning up and smoking. I have the entire collection of cd's plus a few bootlegs not even listed on here. Ozrics for me are for me a band that drew a large following from The New age scene in the late 80's early 90's as well as prog rock, techno, trance fans and of cause Crusty's.

Not everyone's cup of tea i know but for me Ozrics are and always will be a cup of mushroom tea. Peace and love to all Ozric fans everywhere. Reply Notify me 1 Helpful. It is very strange to me that I discovered this band so late in my years of exploring music as a whole. I wish I was able to learn of them when getting into music more serious, when I was in my teenages. Nevertheless, I was shocked what kind of brilliant stuff Ozrics made.

My journey through their stuff started from Waterfall Cities as I watched Ozora Festival review on yt. Now it is time to take a closer look at other albums as well some live performances What can I say, their blend of electronic, space and acoustic music gives me unearth experience in discovering sounds. I can hear genius, perfectionism, touch of god. All elements are as natural as the should be, when talking of an arrangment for each song.

Each part sounds very complex, could say theyre a little partitures. Some before me say that this is the best Space Rock band, but I think you cannot harm their founders pigeonhole them to space rock band.

Its an universal music methinks, so the best way to describe is to use term: Ozric Tentacles. Reply Notify me 4 Helpful. Among the most influential psychedelic bands of all time, rightfully mentioned in the same breath as Hawkwind, Gong, Hillage etc as well as newer styles like goa and psytrance, psybient psydub and beyond. Covering a wide range of spaced out music and even paving the way to new realms.

Long live Ed Wynne. They masterfully syncretise the very best of music modern, classical, and in some cases prehistoric, all with an unparalleled individual virtuosity and an effortless flair. The Ozrics have developed a unique sound that is pretty unparalled.

Their longevity is unbelievable but is really a result of Ed Wynne's creative genius. He's maintained the Ozrics sound through a shifting roster bandmembers the entire time. The Ozrics are clearly not a band for everyone.

For the average listener, hearing them for the first time is like listening to a foreign language being spoken. Musicians hearing the group for the first time will appreciate the musicianship and complexity of the song writing.

I've been a fan since Jurassic Shift was released and I still hear new things when I listen to songs I've heard a hundred times before. The music is really beautiful stuff and I can't emphasize how much I thank the band and Ed for all of the work they've put out to date and have yet to release.

I can honestly tell you that this is my favorite band. Reply Notify me 5 Helpful. Psyloid April 30, Report. They have an interesting blend of Ambient, Trance and Hard Rock bringing you the best of both worlds in a superb way. If u like Electronics and Guitars this music comes highly recommended.

Some of my favourite songs are Sploosh! If u like the books "Lord of the rings" and "The hobbit" try reading them with Ozric tentacles as background music, it helped me visualize what i was reading and i find this music some sort of 'Hobbit music'. Impression so far: Ozric is very nice when using their funky influences and talent for atmospherics exploration, one of the few truly pulsating rock bands if you can call them a rock band.

However there's also a fair amount of 'guitar wanking' Ozric is categorized under "guitar virtuoso" in some catalogues.. Shortly put: if you like later Eat Static, Sphongle etc, there are several excellent nuggets you should hear, but bear in mind Ozric does require active filtering.
